Students will learn the different learning styles developed by Howard Gardner, taking various learning styles tests and researching how this will help them to learn better in theri classes, as well as the type of career that would apply.
Students will work in the following Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Access, Publisher, and Advanced PowerPoint. While working in these programs, you will create projects, some of which are integrated with their other classes. Using a scanner and microphone will be incorporated with the required projects.
Students will learn Web 2.0 tools such as Photostory and Kidspiration and will be able to use these tools within their other classes.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will be able to use the following Microsoft Office Programs proficiently: Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
2. Students will be able to use various peripherals including scanners and microphones. They will be able to save the images and sound files and incorporate them into their projects.
3. Students will learn Web 2.0 tools that will enhance their projects..
5. Students will develop skills necessary to make decisive decisions about projects and how to complete them using the required computer programs. 6. Students will demonstrate self-confidence and the commitment needed to mastering the use of the computer.7. Students will know their learning styles and will be able to know how to study based on their research of their learning styles.

Tentative Time Line of Study August to September 15 Learning styles: Students will take several online tests and learn about their unique learning style. They will learn how to use this knowledge to enhance their learning in their classes.
September 16-October Photostory Web 2.0 tool that is used to create a slideshow with audio(podcasting). The students will use a microphone and music to complete their podcast. October --January Microsoft Excel
Students will creating a worksheet using formulas, using data in his/her spreadsheet to create charts and graphs, then using that data to integrate into Word, summarizing and analyzing the data in the form of a report Students will learn how to sort and query worksheet data. Students will use formulas to create budgets, class grade sheets, and science tables, using advanced formulas. They will create spreadsheets for various projects.
February Microsoft PowerPoint Advanced
A review of basic skills learned in PowerPoint, working with sound and animation files, learning the features of timing and advanced work with graphics to present slides in a professional manner. You will create a photoalbum with sound and narration.
February- April Desktop Publishing/ Microsoft Publisher
You will learn skills involved in desktop publishing. Topics include creating various types of publications including newspapers, brochures, cd covers, resume, letterhead, business cards, pamplets, and flyers,using templates and/or blank documents to create your publications. You will learn design principles that will enhance your publications.
January - Midterm Assessments

May-June Microsoft Access
Introduce students to the basics of a database by learning how to design, create, modify and navigate in the database program, and how to manipulate, sort, and query data. Students will create and use a mailing list to generate labels and envelopes. Students will create databases to generate tables used in theri other classes.

ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS Assessments will be based on class activities, projects and exams. Project rubrics will be used as an assessment within the course. Midterms and finals will be given. GRADING POLICY: A point system is used for Computer Applications II grading. Smaller assignments, such as homework, may be worth 10-30 points, small tests 20-50 points, and large exams and projects worth 50-100 points. Pop quizzes are possible. The quarterly grade will reflect the total points actually earned divided by the total possible points earned. Students may earn points for participating in class. This class includes a cumulative mid-term and final.
