The School District of Lancaster’s Policy for Acceptable Computer Use is always in affect. Signing this document is acceptance of the District’s policy as well as the SLC’s policy. Responsibility. Students are responsible for their own disks and must bring them to every class. 1. All student work is expected to be saved on his/her own USB drive. 2. The teacher is not responsible for work saved to a lab computer. 3. Students may never save their work to another student’s disk (please see Academic Honesty). Equipment Use. Students will be exposed to a variety of technology equipment. Such equipment may include but are not limited to headphones, cameras, scanners, printers and GPS devices. It is expected that students will:
Express Care. Students will use respect and care when using and handling the equipment. If a student damages any equipment, the student may be responsible for the cost of its replacement.
Students are never permitted to disassemble equipment. Students are not allowed to disconnect any cables from the computers or other equipment.
No equipment, either school or personal, maybe used in the classroom without the teacher’s permission.
Respectful Use. The school’s information technology resources, including email and Internet access, are provided for educational purposes. In order to be allowed continued access to the school’s technological recourses, students must:
Respect and protect the privacy of others: Use only assigned accounts, Users may not view, use, or copy passwords, data, or networks to which they are not authorized, nor may they distribute private information about others or themselves.
Respect and protect the integrity, availability, and security of all of all electronics resources: Students must follow all rules and report security risks or violations to a teacher or network administrator. They may not destroy or trash data or other resources that do not belong to them without clear permission of the owner
Respect and protect the intellectual property of others: Students may not infringe copyrights. (No making illegal copies of music, games, or movies!) Do not plagiarize. (Please see Academic Honesty). Do not intentionally access, transmit, copy, or create material that violates the school’s code of conduct (such as messages that are threatening, discriminatory. Or meant to harass) or create material that is illegal (such as illegal copies of copyrighted works).
Publication of Work. Students will be given opportunities to contribute to our classroom’s online projects. Throughout the year, students maybe given the opportunity to contribute essays, vocal performances, and other materials for podcasting and/or publication. Consequences for Violation. Violations of these rules may result in disciplinary action, including the loss of a student’s privileges to use the school’s information technology resources. The teacher reserves the right to delete any contact from the student’s USB that violates the policies outlined in this document. Supervision and Monitoring. School and network administrators and their authorized employees monitor the use of information technology resources at school. Administrators reserve the right to examine, use, and disclose any data found on the school’s information networks in order to further the health, safety, discipline, or security of any student or other person, or to protect property. They may also use this information in disciplinary action, and will furnish evidence of crime to law enforcement. Academic POLICY: All students at McCaskey High School are expected to be honest about their academic endeavors. To steal work or words of another, to cheat on a test, to allow another person to commit or assist another in committing an act of academic dishonesty, corrupts the process by which knowledge is obtained (adapted from Millersville University’s Policy for Academic Honesty at www.Millersville.edu). This behavior will not be tolerated in this classroom. Any student involved will receive a failing grade for the assignment in which cheating was involved. Also, if a student assists another in cheating, both students will receive a falling grade. Additional action maybe taken against the student(s) involved in any unacceptable behavior. Students should never be in possession of another student’s disks or USB drive.
