Excel Lessons


Learning goal: Students will be able to explain what a spreadsheet is used for and identify the basic parts of a worksheet.


Scale:



1. Exploring Spreadsheets: Read the packet on spreadsheets that is in your red Excel folder and answer the questions from the worksheet called Exploring Spreadsheets. You will learn the terms in a spreadsheet and diagram the basic parts to a worksheet.

Now you will use the red Excel book for most of the other lessons.

Unit Learning Goal: Students will learn how to collect data, enter it in an Excel spreadsheet, format the spreadsheet, create a variety of charts, format those charts, create a report with both spreadsheets and charts, and analyze your data and charts.

Learning Goal: You will create a spreadsheet about the US wetlands and create pie charts with the data.

4. Crickets
Learning goal:You will create a spreadsheet about crickets and create both a bar and pie chart. You will then copy it into a Word program and analyze your data.

Learning Goal:You will create a spreadsheet in Word about a club at McCaskey and learn how to use Fill down for the years, and change the data on the horizontal axis.

Learning Goal:You will create a spreadsheet about favorite sports and learn how to create a bar graph using pictures.

7. Pizza Survey:
Learning Goal: To learn how to create a survey, use the survey to create a spreadsheet, create a line graph besides bar, pie, and pictogram and analyze data in a scientific method.

8. Setting Up a Checkbook
Learning Goal: You will create a checkbook register, learning how to use a formula for the balance, and understand the difference between debit and credit.

9. Making a Personal Gradesheet
Learning Goal: Learn to create a gradesheet for your grades in computer class, use formulas to find your percentage and convert a percent into a letter grade.

Learning goal: Learn to use Excel to create a seating chart, using Mr. Fill to fill right and down for a certain size bordered box.

11. Balancing a Budget
Learning goal: Learn how to enter income and expenses, calculate your total expenses for the month, and determine a balance for 6 months, using formulas and formating cells.

12. Science Table
Learning Goal: Create a table using Word, then use the part of the data to export to Excel, create a graph and learn how to switch a row and column to get the results you want from your chart.


13. Papertowel Experiment
Learning Goal:Create a table in Word for Science class, use table tools to erase and merge cells, use a superscript symbol, and figure out average and ratio.

14. Calculator
Learning goal: Create a spreadsheet using the distance formula and add clipart to it.


15. Class Grade Book:
Learning goal: Create a class grade sheet that you would use if you were a teacher, entering text and data, sorting names by alphabetical order and using the average formula, and using a formula to change the percent into a letter grade.

16. PSSA Test Results:
Learning goal: Create a spreadsheet with collected data, make a chart by switching row and column for the needed results and change tick markings, ending by analyzing your data.

17. What are the Top 10 Movies: Create a spreadsheet
Learning Goal: To use data from a movie site, create a spreadsheet with that data, create a column and pictograph, and create a report with an analysis of the data.
